Rodent control

Rat & Mouse Control and Exclusion

Zap finds how rats and mice are getting in, removes the ones inside, and seals the openings so they stay out. We serve homes and businesses across the Sacramento region from Rio Linda.

Office hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Send a message any time.

Rodents in Sacramento area homes

Roof rats and house mice are the usual visitors in this area. Roof rats are good climbers and often come in through rooflines, vents, and gaps where trees or wires touch the house. Mice can squeeze through very small openings around pipes, garage doors, and foundation vents. Both are drawn in by food, water, and a warm place to nest, and activity often picks up as the weather cools.

Common signs

  • Scratching or running sounds in the attic or walls, often at night
  • Droppings in the garage, pantry, under sinks, or in the attic
  • Chewed food packaging, wiring, or insulation
  • Greasy rub marks along walls and beams
  • Nests made of shredded paper, fabric, or insulation

How we handle rodents

Inspection. We look at the outside of the structure, the roofline, the attic and crawlspace where they can be reached, and the inside areas where activity shows up. The goal is to find where rodents are getting in and where they are nesting.

Removal. We set up a plan to remove the rodents that are already inside, based on where the activity is and the layout of the home or building.

Exclusion. We seal the entry points we find to help keep rats and mice out. This is the step that makes the biggest long-term difference. Trapping alone without sealing usually means new rodents move in later.

After the work is done, we explain what we found, what we sealed, and anything you can do around the property to make it less inviting.

Simple steps that help

  • Trim tree branches and vines back from the roof
  • Store pet food, bird seed and garden produce in sealed containers
  • Pick up fallen fruit and keep garbage cans closed
  • Fix dripping hose bibs and leaks
  • Keep stored items in the garage off the floor and away from walls

What we do not handle

Zap does not do wildlife control. We handle rats and mice, but not animals like raccoons, opossums, skunks, squirrels, or birds. If you are not sure what is in the attic, call and describe what you are seeing and we will tell you if it is something we can help with.

FAQ

Rodent control questions

Do you just set traps, or do you seal entry points too?

We do both. We remove the rodents that are inside, and we seal the entry points we find to help keep rats and mice out. Sealing is what helps prevent new rodents from moving in.

Do you handle rats and mice in businesses?

Yes. We provide rodent control for homes and for commercial properties such as restaurants and properties run by property managers.

Do you remove raccoons, squirrels or other wildlife?

No. Zap does not do wildlife control. We handle rats and mice. If you are not sure what is in your attic, call us and describe what you are seeing.

Why do I hear rodents more in fall and winter?

As the weather cools, rats and mice look for warm, sheltered places to nest, and attics and garages are easy targets. That is a good time to have entry points checked and sealed.
